This month’s theme is 2020 vision. It is not only a new year but a new decade and a new season. During this time we want to encourage you to dream big and make progress towards those dreams. In order to do so, you must have a vision and you must learn how to work that vision. So come along as we continue to venture through our first blog set of the year, The January Dear Wednesday Letters, Theme: 2020 Vision.
Pace Yourself: Three Ways to Maintain a Steady 2020 Pace
Dear Wednesday,
I know I know! It's 2020, a new year, a new decade and you are ready to run full speed in to this new adventure that is the twenty twenties. I understand, but let me ask you a quick question.......
Isn't that what most people do on January 1st (of every year)?
They jump at the excitement of a new year. A fresh start. Only to fizzle out or just crash a burn by February 1st! Okay, your stamina may last a little longer than 31 days; however, many people struggle to keep the pace they started with. Now hear me out, this is not to be negative or discouraging (I know Y'all love your “positive vibes only” mantra lol) but it is crucial to be realistic and honest.
Last week we all received a power packed message from Ms. Tamara Charmaine about the importance of working your vision, because that's the only way it will work! In working your vision, you must set a pace for yourself so that you have the endurance to complete the task.
Now let me throw a little science your way. According to trailrunnermag.com, once runners exceed their aerobic threshold they lose efficiency when running long races. This may sound very scientific, but it relates to what can happen mentally when we overexert ourselves too fast. When runners reach this threshold their body switches from burning fat to burning essential carbohydrates. Once a runner goes above their aerobic threshold, waste products that cause fatigue begin to build up in their body which decreases the likelihood that they will finish well or finish at all.
Similarly, we have the ability to push ourselves at a hard pace for short amounts of time but were are not built to run on high forever. Why do you think people commit to going to the gym EVERY DAY at the start of the new year only to find that by March a dedicated few remain?
Well, I believe it is because that dedicated few learned how to set doable goals and push themselves enough to see the benefit, but not too hard to where they became exhausted and overwhelmed. You all know we don’t have time for that, our vision is too big and too important to be stopped.
Therefore, I have listed out 3 tips to help you create and maintain your steady pace for 2020:

First - Set a Clear and (doable) Plan – If you have a hard time figuring out if it is doable, just ask one of the most productive people you know to take a look at your goals. Most importantly, take the advice and remember - Super Woman is a “Fictional Character” (Insert side eye here , lol)
Secondly - Fill Yourself With Daily Encouragement. The path may look fun right now, but 5 months from now after the New Year excitement wears off... the road can start to look unending. But remember, every road has cracks, potholes, and loose gravel. You need not be concerned with the condition of the road, you must focus on your daily steps. Just like long distance runners.. one foot in front of the other!
Third - Remember to Dream Like a Child. The point of a vision is to see beyond your current position in life, to look in to the vast future of possibilities and opportunities, and move in that direction. Trust me, you have more to offer yourself and this world than you can even imagine.
So, to all of my Dear Wednesday Family…
